The DOJ rule, published on April 24, 2024, mandates that digital content — including academic course content, videos, documents, and social media — meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standards.
Compliance Deadline: April 24, 2026
The DOJ requires compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards by April 24, 2026, effective from that date onward.
What is WCAG 2.1 AA?

- Screen readers and text-to-speech software.
- Keyboard-only navigation (no mouse usage).
- Visual aids for high contrast and text resizing.
- Captions and transcripts for all multimedia content.
